Me and my Teddy

I'm sharing this one because I really like it, the way the flag is blowing in the wind and all, I just wish the sunset behind it would have shown up more like it was really. The colors were deeper, made for a prettier picture yet.

Whew! We survived Christmas! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and survived all of the family fun, even if all of it wasn't so much "fun"!
My inlaws came for their annual visit. It was a bit shorter than normal since my sister in law was having a hard time getting time off of work, at Subway of all places! Now, I don't know if you all know or not, but my Mil and I don't always see eye to eye. We look at things from two very different vantage points, she is a perfectionist and things must be done at that, oh, it will get done...sooner or later, and if it's not what, let's just have fun doing it. Can ya see why we would have a problem there. Oh yeah, and have I mentioned how I take things to heart way to easily, some of her comments can really get to me at times. After almost ten years of marriage to her son I am learning to let some of those things slide a little more, she can still get under my skin, but I am learning to walk away and remember the blessings that I do have. In the infamous words of a good friend of mine, you don't have to be a doormat. You don't know how many times I was chanting that in my mind.
Anyway, I was greatly surprised this Christmas with some wonderful gifts and sweet, sweet gestures by friends. We were caroled to, received many hugs, had our first giving of our gifts to each other by ourselves, and had some wonderful visits with some great friends.
I have one gift that I was truly touched by this year, and I will treasure it always. I put it in a special place where I can see it every day and is hopefully safe and sheltered from the kids and flying toys. I was given an adorable Precious Moments figurine. K is groaning now thinking about this "starting something" but agrees that it was a very kind and thoughtful gift and is enjoying his gift as well! He was given a golf club, don't ask me specifics, I have been out to hit some balls all of one time, I'm sure not the last I will be going as I was also given my own set of clubs, but I am still learning.
I will post lots of pictures soon. I have a few that I can't wait to get printed to frame and put in my album. I will also have to take a couple pictures of some gifts to share with you all, there are a few that really touched me and almost brought me to tears. There were some wonderful memories to go right along with them, and I will write more about them soon as well. I fully realize this year just how blessed I truly am and I am very thankful for my blessings!

With everything going on around here lately I have been thinking alot. Thinking about being thankful for all the blessings that we have, thinking about the past, thinking about the future, just thinking.
One thing that I have realized about myself is that I have gotten used to friendship with conditions. I have gotten so used to people who would be my friend as long as I could do something for them and then after that they had no use for me, I find myself still doing those things to make sure I can keep their friendship and fearing that I have done something to offend them or make them upset with me if someone seems distant. I have also realized that I have been trying to "mainstream" myself to be more accepted as well rather than embracing my fun little quirks. The more I think about it the more I think that if they can't accept me as I am then they really aren't true friends. Now don't go thinking that I'm going to be going out and dramatically changing my personality or anything, just embracing the fun little quirks that make me me. Make any sense at all??
I'm tired of worrying about it all, I just want to relax and have fun with my friends. I know that I do have a few who are true blue friends, those who know the real me and who love me as I am too. I'm going to have fun, not too much fun, I still have my standards, but I'm not going to worry about what someone will think when I show up with bright blue nail polish (or chrome as I painted them this afternoon) or worry that my Disney tshirt is going to be too childish to someone, or wonder if someone will think that I'm truly strange because I can quote certain cartoons or sing almost any Veggie Tales song! I'm not going to try to back out of the piano recital coming up because I think it will look odd, me being the only adult in the group ( this teacher has other adult students, but none playing in the recital) I am just going to have fun with it! That's not saying I won't have a complete panic attack once I get up there, but that's another story!
Anyway, I guess what I am trying to say is I am going to be me and have fun doing it!

We had a homey night tonight. After all the kiddos left and I got back from piano lessons K and I made chili and cinnamon rolls and baked some cookies. We watched some of the Grinch cartoon movie while we were cooking and eating and decided that tonight was the night to pull out the tree and decorate it. Up until last year we had always gotten a real tree, but we found such a good deal on an artificial at the Mart of Wally that we couldn't pass it up. Between last year and this year it has paid for itself compared to the price of a real one around here.
It was fun looking at the ornaments and remembering which Christmas we had gotten this one or that one. I got a few pictures to document the occasion as well. Oh and Holli, you really are a bad influence, K and I could hardly keep from laughing when we were talking about our Mickey Mouse balls that we were going to hang on the tree! I will post some pics for you tomorrow.
Must run for now, need to clean up after all the fun of decorating. Have a good night all!

What a day! I got a phone call around ten from PM telling me that we needed to get a prayer request out to the members of our church (we have an email and a phone list that we send out whenever prayer requests come up) telling everyone to pray for M, a friend of mine, who was in a serious car accident this morning. They were told that she has a spinal cord injury, I don't really know how serious yet, but she will be going into surgery tomorrow morning. Any prayers that you would say for her would be greatly appreciated. We are all thankful that she didn't have any of the kids in the car with her at the time, she has three young children, as it was quite a serious accident.
I really hope this ends soon....first K's grandfather died, then his uncle, and now this accident. I tell you it definately makes you thankful for what you have, and not focus on the material aspects of the season! I will definately be saying an extra prayer of thanks or two for all of the blessings that I have!
Other than that it was a bit of a slow day, I was down two kids because on had a nasty cold and cough and Dad stayed home with them rather than them spread it to all the other kiddos. Gotta love parents like that! I have to say that I have been pretty fortunate with this, only one of my daycre families tries to pull fast ones on me with sick kiddos, and now that I have explained to her that little C was a premie and had to be hospitalized due to difficulty breathing and he is more suseptible to things so I have to be even more careful with illness she has been a bit better.
Well, the laundry is calling so I had better go and get something done.....

Two posts in two days, shocking I know! It is just me and the S boys today. Monster's great grandfather passed away on Tuesday and so she is gone for the rest of the week. I won't have any kiddos tomorrow! I have plenty to keep myself busy though. I have blankets to make for the kiddos Christmas gifts, quilting to do, Sunday School, house cleaning, laundry, phone calls to make, Christmas cards to make out, and gifts to wrap. Should be enough to keep me out of trouble!
I survived my Counsel Time last night. The kids were all amazed with my story bag, the Sparks were so cute, they kept saying, "How did you do that?!" There were even a few hands raised for salvation last night too! I was so excited, but so very, very glad to have it all finished and over with!
The Christmas store was a big hit too! The kids spent the shares that they had earned saying their verses and points from game time and after Awana was over the leaders could go shopping and pay a quarter a share! K and I got a few things for ourselves and a few gifts for others for Christmas as well! I think we had to have spent around 20 dollars! It was well worth it though, the storekeeper has gotten rid of some things that have been around for a while now and she has money to go and buy some new things for the store for next year. She always finds the neatest things too! Alot of the kids were buying gifts for their parents or siblings or gradparents and they had two tables of ladies who would wrap the gifts for them after they were finished shopping! I saw lots of huge grins when they were finished. So sweet.

Ugh I am finally feeling better! Last Wednesday after a long day in daycare and then a long night at Awana my tooth started to hurt. I didn't think too much of it as I do have a bad tooth there, it is broken, but I am waiting for L,T,&C's mom to finish up her schooling and graduate on the 15 before I make an appointment to get it fixed as this will free up my schedule a bit. Anyway....I figured it would hurt a bit and after putting some toothache gel on it and a bit of rest that night would be feeling better. Wrong. The next morning it not only felt worse, but my cheek, ear, and jaw hurt. It throbbed, I couldn't eat much at all, it hurt to swallow and talk. It woke me up early Friday morning and Friday was more of the same. Friday night I was awake multiple times during the night with terrible pain, bringing me to tears. I tried getting a dentist appointment on Saturday, but no one was around. Great, I thought, another night of no sleep. But, finally on Sunday when I woke up I was feeling a bit better, and each day since has been better bit by bit. I was talking to a friend of mine in choir practice on Sunday and she said that she thought I had tmj. I looked it up on the internet and I really do think that is what I had. Not fun, I am just thankful that I am feeling better today as I have a Counsel time to give tonight for Awana and I need to be practicing the song I am going to sing for the Christmas program at church!
In other news...we found out K's uncle died and he was supposed to leave Sunday morning to ride with his brother to go to the funeral on Monday and then home with his parents for a day and then drive back home with a different car today. Well, his brother called early Sunday morning and said that he wasn't going. We talked about it and he decided to drive down for the wake Sunday night and drive home afterwards (a good 3 and a half hour drive) and then he would have Monday off and possibly Tuesday, but instead of having today off he would just go back to work. It sounded great to me because I was not in any hurry to be spending those three and a half days or so with out him, especially not so soon after his trip to Ohio for his grandfather's funeral. He spent alot of his time home these last few days working on some honey do projects that he has been putting off for a while. He patched wall paper, put new contact paper in one of my kitchen cupboards, glued the wooden dining room chairs that were coming apart at the spindles, and fixed part of the kitchen cupboards that had been broken for a good six months! He told me that he was ready to go back to work today though, he couldn't take another day with my schedule, and he told me that he thinks I have a terrible job, all the wiping kids noses, behinds, dealing with attitudes! Now I don't think it's horrible, but I do like the fact that he sees that it's not all playtime and giggles around here. I think he did realize that before, but after yesterday he really sees it, and he can understand why some nights I am just ready to get out of here! It doesn't matter where we go, I am just glad to get out! Ok back from that rabbit trail, sheesh! Anyway, he took my cell phone with him when he went to the wake and he called me when he left and let me know when I could expect him home. He called me an hour and a half or so later to tell me that he would probably be later, that the highway he was on was blocked and there were lots of police cars and fire trucks and things, but that he was ok, he would just be a bit later because he would have to detour around. I turned the news on after I had gotten off the phone with him and saw that they were reporting on a terrible head on car accident there. I found out the next morning that someone had died as a result of this accident. We talked about how thankful that we were that he hadn't left any earlier so he wasn't involved in the accident. The Lord was definately watching over him that night, if he would have left just 20 minutes earlier.....
I am definately very thankful for my blessings this Christmas season!

Well, one kiddo awake and K is off to get me some more construction paper so I can make nametags for each leader in Awana, it's our Christmas store and the girls will wrap the gifts and they will get placed in bags with the child's name on them in a row designated for each leader. At the end of the night the teen helpers will be given a child's name and leader's name and they will go find their purchases and give them to the child just in time to take home, so I had better run so I can finish those and look over my Counsel time message one more time!

I was going to come in today and write a bit about our Thanksgiving and more of an explanation of some of those pictures, but I am a bit freaked out. This morning I was playing on the floor with the kids and I went to get up to get something and as I look out the window I see a blue gray van pulled up in front of our house and a lady getting out with a camera and snapping a picture quick. Now that made me curious, but not overly concerned, but whas has me concerned is the fact that when the man in the passenger seat saw me he started talking very quickly, he was on the phone, but this seemed directed at the girl with the camera. And she then quickly hopped back in the van and they pulled up in the driveway across the street and hurried out of here, with a red van with gold trim right behind them waiting while they took the picture and quickly following them on their exit. I have a brief description of the girl taking the picture, and pretty much just the colors of the vans, other than noting that they both had Minnesota license plates. I don't know for sure if they were taking pictures of my house or the neighbors, but me sitting here by myself with other people's kiddos is making me just a tad uneasy about the whole situation!

Heidi, you're a Chosen One!

Your personality is actually determined by two personality sub-types - your primary, or dominant sub-type, and your secondary sub-type. You are a Chosen One which means you are a Golden / Seeker Your primary sub-type is defined by "Golden" characteristics and your secondary sub-type is defined by "Seeker" characteristics.

That means you're warm, giving, knowing, and patient. Chances are you're not afraid to actively pursue your goals and dreams. As if all that weren't enough, you pretty much set the standard for emotional health by being filled with positive feelings and energy.

Ok so Holli over at Baby Faith asked nicely so here I go with a meme just for her....

First name? Heidi

Were you named after anyone? My first name I was named after a friend of my Mom's who she used to baby sit for and my middle name was my great grandma's.

When did you last cry? When hubby was gone to Ohio for his grandfather's funeral.

Do you like your handwriting? No not really, I write big and sloppy, I really have to force myself to write neatly.

What's your favorite lunch meat? Oscar Meyer Bologna! It grosses hubby out, but I say oh well more for me lol! I love love love those Lunchables where you get the crackers, cheddar cheese, and bologna!

If you were another person, would you be friends with you? Ummmmm I guess so. I mean what kind of person would I be if I said no way!? Yeah there are things I like about myself that I don't like and am really working hard to change, but generally I guess the answer would be yes.

Do you journal? Yes here and in a handwritten journal, but I am much better about journaling here than in the hand written one. Sometimes I am just not near the computer or it's something that just seems silly and I need to vent out and work through it and get it all out instead of it running circles around my head.

Do you still have your tonsils? Yep, I have had no major surguries or anything. Stitches a couple of times and a trip to the er after I knocked out my front teeth by running into the back of the car. They couldn't find the teeth and were worried about what happened to them so I got to make a fun little trip to the hospital. They never did find them, my Dad remembers the teeth marks I left in the back of the car, my biggest memory of that was the sucker they gave me when I was ready to go home!

Would you bungee jump? One word. NO! Ok so my biggest phobia is heights! If I have a firm foundation under me I am ok, but fair type rides, edges of mountains, certain ladders/scaffolding, FREAKS ME OUT TO NO END! So no worries on me doing anything like that!

What is your favorite cereal? I don't eat alot of cereal, but I love Cinnamon Toast Crunch! Hadn't thought about it for a long time until I read your answers too, Holli, but I love that Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch too! Going shopping this afternoon I may just have to pick some up! Thanks Holli lol!

Do you untie your shoes when you take them off? No. Odd thing for me is I have to untie them then to put them on again though. K thinks I'm nuts and just slips his back on!

Do you think you are strong? No! Especially not after a day of holding the chunky little baby C!

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Mint chocolate chip! Yummy!

Shoe size? 9 1/2 to 10 depending on the shoe

Favorite color? Blue

What is your least favorite thing about yourself? I tend to take things WAYYYYYYYYYY too personally! I really need to not get so emotionally involved and step back and not think I did something wrong all the time.

Who do you miss the most? My great uncle Jim. He lived out in Colorado and we wrote letters alot when I was growing up, he died of cancer years ago and I still have all those letters saved upstairs. My two cousins, my brother, and I used to take a trip with my Grandparents each summer and one summer he asked that we come out to visit him and his family so we could see each other again before he died. The only downside to that trip was the car sickness after going on the pigtail bridges in South Dakota on our way to see Mount Rushmore!

Do you want everyone to send this back to you? Why not if you want to do it! It's kind of cool the memories some of these questions have brought me back to thinking about that I haven't thought about in a LONG time!

What color pants and shoes are you wearing? Holli you are going to love this one! Blue jeans and light pink slippers with dark pink hearts all over them! Hehe if you look close you can actually see them in some of my quilting pics!

Last think you ate? That would be a Take Five(I think that's what it's called) candy bar. It wasn't that great.

What are you listening to right now? The sound of the keys on the keyboard and Miss A snoring because she is so congested from her cold.

If you were a crayon what color would you be? A nice medium blue or purple would be nice.

Favorite smells? Fresh cut grass, clean laundry, cookies baking in the oven, clean baby smell, lilacs.

Who was the last person you talked to on the phone? Our pastor unless you count answering machines lol!

The first thing you notice about people you are attracted to? Their smile and laugh.

Do you like the preson you stole this from? Yep yep!

Favorite Drink? Mt Dew! Although I can not drink it after 4 pm or I will be wide awake for the longest time at night!

Favorite sport? ok hard to pick, football, basketball, baseball I like to go watch people I know play all of those, but I guess if I have to choose one I would choose baseball since I recently got to go and watch the Twins play in person!

Eye color? Blue

Hat size? Umm no clue!

Do you wear contacts? No, if I ever do need glasses or contacts I think it will have to be glasses because I have a terrible time just giving myself my artificial tear eyedrops I hate watching something as it comes right toward your eyeball! I can NEVER keep my eyes open!

Favorite food? Spaghetti! Pasta! K hates it so I only get it when we go out to eat or when I get brave and decide to feed the kiddos spaghetti!

Scary movies or happy endings? Happy endings! I just can not sit and watch a scary movie! In jr high I went with some friends and saw the first Chuckie movie and my friends and I had to toss all our dolls in the hallway! Not to mention the fact that my brother had one of those my buddy dolls that looked quite similar to Chuckie!

What color shirt are you wearing? Neon green I guess you would call it. It's from our VBS this year it has three little frogs and it says Camp Turned Around Life-changing fun! Our theme was like a sleepaway type camp with counselors and a "campfire" in the middle of the auditorium where the kids sat and listened to the openings and closings as well as the missionary story.

Summer or winter? SUMMER

Hugs or kisses? Hugs, I say that now because almost every single daycare child has a cold and I really do not relish those little green noses coming at me!

Favorite dessert? Anything chocolate

What book are you reading? Right now the only book I am really reading is a devotional book called 31 Days of Praise, other than my Bible itself that is.

What is on your mousepad? Don't have one I have an optical mouse

What did you watch last night on TV? The girl's moma at Mix'd Equally will love this one! A Scrubs rerun just before I went to bed!

Favorite sounds? Kids laughing!

Rolling Stones or the Beatles? Beatles

What's you special talent? I don't think I have one really...I dunno maybe I tend to pick up on things quickly and can learn quickly is that a special talent?

Newest thing you've tried? Quilting

One thing you would change about yourself? To not be so emotional and not take things so personally

Who did you last send a card or letter to? One of my daycare mothers to thank her for bringing us lunch of Pizza Hut pizza (pepperoni), dessert breadsticks, and Sierra Mist

Where would you like to visit if money were no object? To a coast to see an ocean. I don't care which one really, I would just like to be able to say I have seen the ocean!

Well Holli there ya go! Like I said just don't laugh too hard at my answers!
